Barbara Bjeletich

Creativity is my passion. I am a retired nurse practitioner and currently spend my time in travel, music and art.

I began my journey in textiles; spinning, dying and weaving, sewing and crocheting. The accoutrements took over my home and after I raised my children, looking to downsize, I found a sketchbook and a pencil….portable, with so many possibilities. But, when I moved onto oil and acrylic painting, I found I was filling my living space once again with supplies. I was introduced to watercolor and found my heart. Watercolor is easily portable, and great for plein air. It is unpredictable and always changing, which I find exciting. I believe this is my core medium. However, I am always searching for adventure and excitement. I was recently introduced to aboriginal paintings and pointillism.

My education is primarily in medicine. I have been a nurse and then a nurse practitioner, working in a busy emergency room and traveling to remote areas of Alaska and New Mexico in family practice. I have had no formal education in art, but I have taken many workshops over the years.

I studied drawing with Anthony Ryder in Santa Fe; watercolor with Steven Curl in Yosemite; architectural painting with Anita Lehman in Civita, Italy; plein air painting with Shari Blankopf in Costa Brava, Spain; plein air with David and Karen Hidalgo in Yellowstone; a small group of painters in Giverny, France, and Molly Hashimoto in Yosemite, as well as multiple on-line courses. I am truly grateful to regularly paint in the brig with a group of diverse and talented artists that are always willing to share their knowledge, experience and enthusiasm.
